REVIEW

PARK INFORMATION
The clear waters of Stockton Lake beckon visitors to water ski, scuba dive, swim or fish. And Stockton State Park is the perfect place to do it. It’s an ideal place for sailing, with a perpetual southwest breeze and a nationally recognized sailing school housed at the marina. Two boat launches make it easy to get in the water, as does a swimming beach. Want to stay on land? The park is great for photographing wildlife, picnicking with the family, hiking or just reveling in the beauty of southern Missouri. The park also offers a range of lodging from campsites to cabins.According to the Missouri State Department of Natural Resources, "Want to fly your drone? There are no laws prohibiting drones on state park grounds, but we do ask that you keep it to the main, open day-use areas and be respectful of other visitors in the park. If you will be taking photos for professional use or sale, there would be a process to go through to gain approval for that.

DESCRIPTION

Stockton State Park is a picturesque state park located in southwestern Missouri, near the town of Stockton and on the shores of Stockton Lake. The park, covering over 2,000 acres, is renowned for its outdoor recreational offerings. Visitors can enjoy activities such as fishing, boating, camping, hiking, and picnicking. Stockton Lake, known for its crystal-clear waters and excellent sailing conditions, is a major draw for water sports enthusiasts.

Is it Worth Flying a Drone There?
Flying a drone at Stockton State Park can offer stunning aerial views of the lake, forested areas, and the park's various amenities. The landscape is quite scenic and would likely present many opportunities for capturing beautiful photos and videos.

Am I Legally Allowed to Fly a Drone There?
Drone regulations within state parks can vary. As of my last update in October 2023, Missouri does not have blanket state laws prohibiting drones in state parks, but specific parks may have their own restrictions. It is essential to check directly with Stockton State Park’s administration or website for the most current information regarding drone use. This ensures you comply with any specific rules they might have in place.

Do I Need LAANC Authorization?
Stockton State Park is in a relatively rural area, so it's less likely to be in controlled airspace that requires LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability) authorization. However, you should check the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) B4UFLY app or an approved LAANC provider to verify whether you need airspace authorization for that specific location.

Anything Else I Need to Know?
1. FAA Regulations: Ensure you are abiding by FAA regulations for recreational drone use, which include flying below 400 feet, maintaining a line of sight, avoiding flight over people, and not flying in restricted airspace without proper authorization.
2. Privacy and Etiquette: Be respectful of other park visitors. Avoid flying your drone close to people, campsites, or private property to ensure everyone's privacy and enjoyment of the park.
3. Wildlife and Nature: Avoid disturbing wildlife. Drones can be disruptive to animals, so steer clear of nesting areas and habitats.
4. Weather Conditions: Check local weather conditions before flying. High winds, rain, and other adverse conditions can make flying hazardous.
5. Battery Life: Be mindful of your drone's battery life, especially when flying over water or dense forested areas. Always plan for a safe return flight.
By following these guidelines, you can safely and legally enjoy flying your drone at Stockton State Park, capturing the natural beauty from an aerial perspective.
