REVIEW

PARK INFORMATION
With locations on both the Hermitage and Pittsburg sides of Pomme de Terre Lake, Pomme de Terre State Park offers a little bit of everything. A marina and boat ramps make it easy to get in the water and fish for bass, walleye, catfish, crappie, or muskie. Two public swimming beaches make for great places to cool off or laze the day away. Two hiking trails satisfy an appetite for adventure. Approximately 240 campsites, three yurts, four camper cabins, one full-service marina cabin and a lake house provide lodging options and make the park ideal for multiday getaways.According to the Missouri State Department of Natural Resources, "Want to fly your drone? There are no laws prohibiting drones on state park grounds, but we do ask that you keep it to the main, open day-use areas and be respectful of other visitors in the park. If you will be taking photos for professional use or sale, there would be a process to go through to gain approval for that.

DESCRIPTION

Pomme de Terre State Park is situated in the scenic region of Hermitage, Missouri, and offers visitors a variety of recreational activities against the backdrop of the beautiful Pomme de Terre Lake. The park is divided into two main sections: the Hermitage area and the Pittsburg area. Both sections provide amenities such as campgrounds, picnic areas, swimming beaches, hiking trails, and opportunities for boating and fishing.

Flying a Drone at Pomme de Terre State Park:
1. Worth It: The picturesque landscape, with its mix of water, wooded areas, and open spaces, makes it an appealing location for drone photography and videography. The lake's expanse and the surrounding natural beauty can offer some stunning aerial views.
2. Legality and Permissions:
- As of my last update in 2023, the Missouri State Park system generally prohibits the operation of drones within the boundaries of state parks. This is in place to ensure the safety, privacy, and enjoyment of all park visitors, as well as to protect wildlife.
- While there may be specific circumstances or events where drone use is permitted through special authorization, you would need to secure explicit permission from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources or park management to fly a drone at Pomme de Terre State Park.
3. LAANC Authorization:
- LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability) is a system used in the United States to request and receive airspace authorizations for flying drones in controlled airspace under 400 feet.
- Pomme de Terre State Park is not located near major airports or in controlled airspace, so LAANC authorization is typically not required for this area. However, you should always check current airspace maps and regulations before flying, as airspace classifications can change.
Additional Considerations:
- Wildlife and Environment: Be mindful of the natural environment and local wildlife when flying a drone. The noise and presence of drones can disturb animals and disrupt the ecosystem.
- Visitors' Privacy: Always respect the privacy and space of other park visitors. Avoid flying over populated areas like campgrounds, picnic areas, or swimming beaches.
- Regulations and Local Rules: Besides state park regulations, you must adhere to FAA rules and guidelines for recreational drone use, such as keeping your drone within visual line-of-sight, not flying over 400 feet above ground level, and not flying over people or moving vehicles.
In summary, while Pomme de Terre State Park offers a beautiful landscape for drone enthusiasts, current state park regulations prohibit drone flights without special permission. Always check with the park authorities and ensure you comply with all relevant regulations and guidelines before planning to fly a drone in any location.
