Due to construction of the Spirit Trail, the following closures are currently in effect:
McAdoo Trail is closed to all users.
Backcountry campsites on McAdoo Trail are unavailable.
The special-use camping area is closed to campers.
Knob Noster State Park is a tranquil retreat of open oak woodland with a few patches of prairie along both sides of the meandering Clearfork Creek. It’s a place for fishermen to wet a line; for mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders to get some trail time; and for families to spend quality time together. The park also features an oxbow slough, which has been officially designated as Pin Oak Slough Natural Area. According to the Missouri State Department of Natural Resources, "Want to fly your drone? There are no laws prohibiting drones on state park grounds, but we do ask that you keep it to the main, open day-use areas and be respectful of other visitors in the park. If you will be taking photos for professional use or sale, there would be a process to go through to gain approval for that.

Legal Considerations for Flying a DroneAs of my knowledge cutoff date in October 2021, drone usage is generally not permitted in Missouri state parks without specific permission. The Missouri State Parks system has rules and regulations that typically restrict the use of drones to ensure the safety and privacy of visitors, as well as to protect wildlife and natural resources.
Do I Need LAANC Authorization?LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability) authorization is needed for flying drones in controlled airspace near airports under 400 feet. It provides real-time processing of airspace authorizations below approved altitudes in controlled airspace. Knob Noster State Park is not located in controlled airspace that requires LAANC authorization, but you should verify this through the FAA's B4UFLY app or similar resources.
